Service Description

Have you always wanted to milk a cow? Are you thinking about adding a cow to your small farm or homestead? Do you want to get a better idea of where your raw milk comes from? Well, this is the workshop for you! This is a private, hands on workshop where you will be going through our morning routine, feeding, cleaning and getting your hands and boots dirty. Speaking of boots, wear some! We will talk about what it's like to keep a family cow and how milking on a small scale differs from larger dairy farms. We will cover everything from whether or not to keep the calves with their mothers to what to do with all that milk. This is a great way to find out if adding a cow to your farm or homestead is a good idea and what it entails. Some people leave here realizing that a dairy cow is more than they can handle, but most people leave even more excited about the prospects of having their own cow. What you can expect to learn: What supplies and Equipment you will need. Cost of caring for and feeding a dairy cow. How to hand milk. How to use a machine and the pros and cons. Sanitation, cleaning and safety of raw milk. Time commitment of having a cow. What to do with the calves. Cow body language and temperaments. How to use up your milk. Why I choose the breeds I have. I am not an expert by any means but I can teach you about how I keep our small farm dairy and share my successes and failures. Come hang out in the barn, drink some coffee and learn all about milking cows. I'll supply the cream! What you need to know. You will get dirty! Wear boots, comfortable clothes and dress in layers. Small group setting, relaxed and down to earth is always the goal. I'll have coffee a snack and some bottled water. Children are welcome to join you but they MUST be well behaved, respectful of our animals and quiet. Expect to be here 2-3 hours Payment: We require a $50.00 non-refundable deposit. Pay the rest when you arrive at the workshop. If you cancel your deposit will not be returned and we will consider it a donation to our farm. More Questions?
